The Wizard of Oz is without a doubt my favorite film. I have loved it since I was a child and can sit and watch it from beginning to end without fast-forwarding or getting restless I love it.
So I am sometimes a bit skeptical when it comes to re-makes. I had no interest in seeing Andrew Lloyd Webber's remake of the musical. However, I did read Wicked and saw the musical and loved it. I suppose I don't mind re-imagining of the story before it is just the actual story I want left alone.
When I saw Oz The Great and Powerful was coming out I was looking forward to seeing it and thought the cast looked amazing - James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis, and directed by Sam Raimi which is quite interesting really as he has directed the Spider-man films and The Evil Dead.
It starts in black and white and in a square, just like the original 1939, and then when he gets to Oz is goes into glorious technicolour.
The story is about Oz, a conman/magician in Kansas who gets swept up in a tornado and ends up in Oz. He is found by Theodora (Kunis) who believes he is the Wizard here to save Oz from the wicked witch. She brings him to her sister Evanora (Weisz) who doesn't quite believe the prophecy is true. On his travels he finds Glinda the Good Witch (Williams) they join forces to give Oz back to the people. He is also joined by a winged monkey called Finley (Zach Braff) and the beautiful China Girl (Joey King).
There are a few laughs some from Finley. It is a brilliant, nostalgia, family film.
James Franco is unlikable but likable at the same time. Mila Kunis is phenomenal, her transformation from naive Theodora to someone completely different and altogether wicked is brilliant.
I watched the film in 3D and unlike other films it didn't feel like it was in 3D for 3D's sake. It added depth and made you feel as if you are looking through a window. Really beautiful and bright and colourful.
If you love The Wizard of Oz I think you will like this as it is similar to it, almost a homage. This is a brilliant film, although I do think it is a little to CGI-ed. A lot of special effects, but still fantastic. Go see with the family.

Hollywood Costume Exhibition - V&A London
I love my films so when I saw that the V&A, my favourite museum, had an exhibition of Hollywood Costumes I got on the internet and booked tickets straight away.
It was simply amazing the costumes they have on show include some of the most recognisable costumes through the history of film.
Over 100 of the most iconic costumes from across the century of film-making.
It was mesmerising two dresses from Gone with the Wind - two Scarlett O'Hara dresses which were beautiful. Indiana Jones' iconic outfit was slightly different from what I was expecting but instantly recognisable.
I was surprised just how small some of the stars were, Robert DeNiro was very narrow and short, Russell Crowe's Gladiator suit was also smaller than I was expecting.
There were costumes from Matrix, Twilight: New Moon, Moulin Rouge, Chicago and Atonement. Just so many that it is hard to recount them all.
My favourites include a Marilyn Monroe dress from Some Like It Hot, which was just beautifully made.
The black dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's was really simple and if not made by Givenchy and worn by Audrey Hepburn would not be that amazing but the fact it is makes it breathtaking.
The two major pulls of the exhibition are THE white dress from The Seven Year Itch, which looks quite small when you think Marilyn was meant to be a size 14 and also I never realised that it has a bow on the band.
The other is Dorothy's dress from The Wizard of Oz worn by Judy Garland. It was quite small and very prim, nothing special but like the Holly Golightly dress what it was in and who wore it madke it amazing. It also had two pairs of ruby slippers a replica pair and also the actual pair. Now The Wizard of Oz is my all time favourite film and I was a little disappointed in the slippers but also a little fascinated. They are covered in sequins I don't know what I was expecting though, actual rubys.
One of best costumes I think is the black ballerina outfit worn by Natalie Portman in Black Swan, I didn't really like the film but the craftsmanship and detail in that dress makes it look beautiful.
My one criticism though is in relation to the Batman, Catwoman, Superman and Spiderman outfits. They were placed high up so you couldn't really get a good look at them something I would love to have done to the Batman outfit from The Dark Knight Rises.

These Shoes were made for Walking............?
If you have read my blog before you probably already know that I love shoes. I even have a shoe calendar that shows a different pair of shoes every day. I just love them, flat, sandals, platforms, heels all shoes, as long as they are pretty.
I am a very lucky girl as I have a pair of beautiful black, patent, Christian Louboutin's bought for me as a Christmas present from my amazing boyfriend. The heel is about 5 inches and they are pointy toed, their name is Pigalle, this is what they are called I didn't name them that:

I love them they are my pride and joy, however with most loves there is one snag the title for this post may be these shoes were made for walking, but my Louboutin's I fear are not. Not for long distances anyway, as beautiful as they are, they are very high and cripple my feet. I know celebs are seen wearing them out and about, however, how far do they actually walk? From front door to awaiting car, a waiting car down red carpet, then sit down. Whereas, on the other hand the last time I wore them out for my birthday, I went to the Ritz for Afternoon tea, so I walked from our hotel to the Ritz, then from there to Her Majesty's Theatre to see Phantom (I know I sound spoilt but it was a Christmas and birthday treat, planned to take place on the same day) by which point I was close to tears, but luckily I had a pair of flats on me before my ankles caved in. They still look beautiful and make my legs look slimmer and longer. Sitting down I look elegant, walking I look like Bambi on ice.
I think I can pinpoint the beginning of my fascination with shoes, I am a massive fan of The Wizard of Oz, I watched it a lot when I was a child and still love it to this day. I marvelled at Dorothy's ruby slippers, they were everything I loved (and still love) sparkly, red, and very, very pretty! If I was Dorothy I would not have given them back. The obsession with the ruby slippers means I have a few pairs of shoes emulating the actual ones; I have a pair of red sparkly pumps and a pair of red satin ballerina shoes. I even tried to buy a pair of replicas from Harrods when they were celebrating the films 70th birthday. They were only £29.99 but when I went there I was greeted by shelf after shelf of nothing! I asked the 'nice' girl through gritted teeth when they would get them in, to be told they didn't know, it took all my strength not to push her over nick her ruby slippers off her feet and run off! I have since looked on eBay and they are going for almost ten times as much as the RRP. :(
This obsession with shoes is not helped by one of my favourite shows lead character being equally obsessed with shoes Sex and the City's Carrie, the thought of having an engagement shoe is very tempting to me. Her shoe closet makes me want to cry and the Vogue episode when she found the Mary Jane's makes my heart leap. Sad but true!!
My theory is we need to have loads of shoes, well I do, and I have loads of outfits and need shoes to match them, or at least match my bag. I'm also a firm believer in Party Feet, they are miracle workers! I was sceptical at first but buy a pair every time I buy new shoes, the gel cushion means I can go longer without the soles of my feet killing, now if only I could get something to stop the dull ache caused in other pairs. I may love shoes but most of the shoes I own do not love me.
